The history of Holland is amazing. Back before Holland was started, there were people looking for religious freedom. They were looking for their own land. The people were planning on settling in Wisconsin, but bad weather set them back and they had to stay in Detroit for awhile. They heard that there was free land across Michigan, so they decided to settle there.

It was 1847 when they all arrived. When they got there, what they expected to be good land turned out to be swamp land. In the sheds they built, they could not find enough room for everybody. Everyone was squashed and cramped. But then they realized they could use what they had to change the land. They started building transportation and railroads. They also made buildings, and eventually the land became a town that we know today as Holland.
